My Life (written after reading comments on ask or answer.)

After the ask or answer on assisted suicide and reading the comments from everyone just felt I had to pen these few words.

I treasure every moment of the life I live
I think my life is special and have no wish to leave
But if ever I got very sick so ill there was no cure
And if my life was full of pain I could no more endure
Then it is MY right to say that I will take no more
It's my decision when to go not yours and thats for sure
It's me that has to strike a bargain with MY God
It's not for you to tell me I'll be damned for good
My pain and suffering is only to do with me
If I can't bear it any longer I have the right to be free
I have the right to say whether I live or die
So don't you try to lecture me or morally imply
That I have no right to control my destiny
'Cos my life is mine and belongs to only me.

Yes I agree. If I was suffering I would rather be let go.
If I was in a terrible accident and arrived at hospitial dead I would ask for DO Not Resuscitate.

I have not seen the comments as I chose to leave that group, although I may pop over.

I agree with those sentiments too..as did one wonderful old lady who I attended a spanish language class with a few years ago..
She was an articulate, pleasant and warm 82 year old but had for a number of years suffered from a debilitating disease.
She consciously made the decision she would suffer no more and tidied up all her affairs before taking her own life by overdosing on the tablets she had accumulated over a period of time.
Despite her solid religious views who are we to say she should have suffered on regardless...

Hello.
I had a differing opinion to the one in your poem. Now that I have seen it I am unsure. You see there is a huge difficulty when I try to square it off with my beliefs. Now I question the belief ..... I must give it some real thought! The poem has set me off down a little used road.

  Everyone must make up their own mind as to what is right for them. All that I ask is that I can do what I feel right for me if and when that time should come.
  Likewise only you can know what is right for you and if we think about things once in a while it can't hurt can it?

I am not engaged in this discussion and have not read the item which has provoked this poem,which I liked.......... sufficient when the time comes ,if it ever does,to dig into past experience and act accordingly.

  Thank you I am probably the last person that would ever use this option but I do think people have rights over their own bodies hence the poem.
